A multi-game tournament featuring over RMB2,000,000 (USD300,000) of prize money and a LAN final in the 2008 Olympics venue has been announced by the Chinese government.
The event, which is named National Electronic League, will be hosted by the Chinese government and co-hosted by TongFang Media. This tournament will feature multiple titles, from PC games to mobile games. Games being assigned the largest portion of the prize pool include Dota2 (RMB1,300,000/ USD200,000), CS:GO (RMB640,000/ USD100,000), and Hearthstone (RMB250,000/ USD38,000).
Bird Nest Stadium
In this Chinese only tournament, open qualifiers will be taking place in May and June, before the main LAN event which will be held from the 1st to 3rd of July at the Bird Nest stadium in Beijing, China.
The open qualifiers will spilt participants into four groups and utilize a single elimination bracket to decide the winner who will take part in the main event.
The Chinese coverage of the tournament will be broadcast on national TV (CCTV) and streamed while the English coverage will be handled by joinDOTA. A detailed schedule is expected to be released in the near future.
According to the information released, the government has invested $7,500,000 into setting up the venue for eSports uses. As for the estimated number of participants, the main venue can hold 30,000 people and a total 1,000,000 people are expected to take part in the various open qualifiers.
